City and Guilds 3666-04 Course overview:
This concentrated 3-day data comms cabling training course which will provide you with the knowledge and skills that you need to install, terminate and test copper cabling for datacomms structured cabling data networks. This course covers the key tasks that have to be performed on data comms cabling that is installed within the premises and in an internal environment, which includes office environment, public buildings or other business premises. The skills and knowledge gained can be applied to data cabling and structured cabling, otherwise known as copper cabling, as used for commercial environments, including large office premises, SoHo Systems, and industrial networks. The course focuses on the key aspects of health and safety, the correct selection of tools, equipment and components as well as the working practices that are typically used for the installation of network cabling and structured cabling that support the transmission of data, voice and video.

Course content:
• Recognise the terminology when dealing with copper communication data cabling
• Work safely with copper data cabling in an internal environment
• Explain basic electrical principles with reference to datacomms cabling
• Recommended data cabling installation procedures in accordance with standards
• Describe the different data cable presentations, i.e. RJ45 & RJ11
• Explain data cable performance categories (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat7 etc)
• Install data communication cabling including Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat7
• Terminate a variety of communication cabling including Cat5e & Cat6
• Test cabling link performance against recognised standards
• Troubleshoot copper communication data cabling
In addition, the course will also describe typical examples of how and where particular categories of data cable can be deployed.
Assessment:
All candidates are assessed via 25 multiple choice questions – this is an “closed book” examination and is carried out using the computer based City and Guilds Gola system – all candidates are given their results at the end of the examination.
