This very intensive 4 day training course provides delegates with both the practical skills and the underpinning knowledge, needed to work with fibre optic cabling safely. Included on the courses are details on basic installation practices, fibre optic splicing, fibre optic cable management, external enclosures, the practical skills required to terminate and test fibre optic cabling.

This course also focuses on the components, equipment and working practices that are typically used for both external fibre cabling coming into an internal system and for fibre optic cabling installed in an external environment.

The course is ideally suited for fibre optic cabling technicians, installers, data comms cabling installers and network cabling technicians who may have had some previous experience in installing data cabling, but are seeking to acquire new skills in fibre optic cabling, increasing their knowledge and opportunities. Ity may be that as part of an expanding role, individuals may benefit in possessing a nationally recognised qualification.

City and Guilds 3667-02:103 demonstrates, that delegates have been thoroughly assessed and can confidently install, terminate and test fibre optic cabling, that typically, will be installed in an external environment.

This course is aimed at datacomms engineers looking to prove their installation skills and professionalism. It is also applicable to individuals who are in allied trades, for example, electricians and telecomms engineers who wish to increase and broaden their range of skills.

This City & Guilds 3667-02:103 course is the recognised qualification for professional datacomms cabling and structured cabling installers and is on the established UK's regulated qualifications framework (RQF)

- How optical fibres work and the issues that can affect performance

- Identify fibre optic components and explain their uses

- Work safely with optical fibres in an external environment

- Follow recommended installation procedures and working practices

- Fibre optic cabling fusion splicing

- Prepare fibre optic cabling for termination and splicing onto "pigtails"

- Terminate fibre optic cabling into a patch panel/ODF

- Carry out fibre optic cable "dressing into a closure" procedure

- Loss budget calculations

- Carry out a OTDR test on fibre optic links

- Interpreting test results

- Fibre optic fault finding

- Complete client documentation 

 

All candidates are assessed by means of an on line examination, comprising of 25 multiple choice questions. City and Guilds 3667-02:103 is a “closed book” examination and is carried out using the computer based City and Guilds e-volve system.

All candidates are given their results at the end of the examination.

There is also a series of timed practical assessments.

 

This course is subject to vat and is inclusive of all examination fees.

 

This course leads to a fully accredited level 2 qualification in Fibre Optic Cabling in an External Environment
