Course explanation:
This 1-day course is really a masterclass for technicians and fibre optic engineers who are already involved in carrying out tests on fibre optic cabling systems. The course aims to provide a greater depth of understanding of the processes behind the OTDR combined with a hands on practice session. As part of the course, there will be an explanation of system design parameters and advanced testing requirements, for both multimode and singlemode fibre optic cabling systems.
Who will benefit from this course?
The course is designed primarily for fibre optic technicians who have a good understanding of fibre installations and are seeking to advance their OTDR testing skills.
Course content:
• 10Mb, 100Mb, Gigabit & 10Gb systems
• Overview of Fibre Optic systems, campus networks & fibre designs
• Health & Safety procedures
• Distance/loss measurements (fibre, bending, splicing & connectors)
• OTDR limitations & how to resolve various issues
• Measuring cable in different situations
• Poor conditions, bare fibres, ghosts, saturations, mis-matches & linearity
• Operating the OTDR
• Automatic configurations & macro facilities
• Set-up & software routines
